Dr. Ben L. Schachter

     The founder and owner of Wellington Equine Associates, Dr. Ben L. Schachter is a Florida native as well as a Charter Class Graduate of the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine (1980).  Additionally, Dr. Schachter was awarded a Master of Science Degree from the Auburn University, School of Veterinary Medicine.  Dr. Schachter has been in equine medical and surgical practice in South Florida for the past 28 years.  He has worked on the “A” rated hunter jumper circuit since 1980 and has taken care of many top equine show and racehorses.  His major professional interests are equine sportsmedicine and lameness diagnosis as well as orthopedic surgery.

Kathryn (“Kitty”) Schachter

     Kitty Schachter, wife of Dr. Schachter,  was awarded a BA degree in Fine Arts and Equestrian Studies from William Woods University.  She has extensive work experience in the equine veterinary field,  working both as a large and small animal veterinary technician.   Kitty is the Clinic Manager for Wellington Equine Associates as well as  the Nurse Anesthetist.
Her experience in equine anesthesia spans 25 years and she has had extensive case experience in virtually all types of equine anesthesia.  In her spare time, Kitty enjoys painting in water colors and drawing in charcoal and has become a very well known equine artist in South Florida.

Dr. Alan Nixon

     Dr. Alan Nixon is Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Director of The Comparative Orthopaedics Laboratory and the JD&ML Wheat Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Laboratory at Cornell University.  Dr Nixon has a clinical focus in arthroscopy and fracture repair, is ACVS board certified, and has authored over 230 papers and book chapters, and has written 2 texts on equine orthopedics, one in 1996 entitled Equine Fracture Repair, and a second with Dr McIlwraith in 2005 called Diagnostic and Surgical Arthroscopy in the Horse.

Dr. Norman G. Ducharme

     Dr. Ducharme is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.  Currently, he is the James Law Professor of Surgery and the medical director of the Equine and Farm Animal Hospitals of the Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine.  Dr. Ducharme has authored numerous journal articles as well as chapters in various books.  He is one of the top upper respiratory surgeons in the country and he consults and performs surgery at Wellington Equine Associates regularly.
