Prepurchase Examinations

Buying a new horse can be a complex experience as well as an investment of a significant amount of money.  Once an animal is selected for its rider compatability and its athletic ability, most buyers want to make sure that it is healthy as well as sound for its intended use.  Buyers of horses like to know if there are any existing subclinical problems that can cause lameness and decreased athletic performance.  One of our specialized services at Wellington Equine Associates is to perform prepurchase examinations on behalf of buyers.  This usually consists of a thorough physical examination, examination of the horse under saddle, and a digital radiographic examination.  We also offer prepurchase drug screening, laboratory screening for general health, as well as lower limb ultrasound,  and upper airway endoscopy.  These procedures are performed with the latest digital equipment.  We perform many prepurchase examinations on equine athletes of all disciplines each year.
